Navigating Flotilla

Flotilla is committed to challenging, testing, and exploring the established norms in the artist-run sector, and in the broader arts community.

While we are taking steps to promote inclusivity, equity, and accessibility at Flotilla, and while we recognize that these measures cannot undo systemic oppression, we are making efforts to ensure that Flotilla is a safer space for those in attendance. Flotilla encourages open-mindedness, respect, a willingness to learn from others, as well as physical and mental safety. To that end Flotilla strives (or is committed to) to create a space that is free of unkind, unfair, or oppressive behaviours on the basis of language, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, sex, age, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic standing, family status, as well as all acts of violence and harassment, sexual or otherwise.

Flotilla  has considered the accessibility of spaces, ensured there are gender inclusive washrooms, have an under waged rate, consulted with the Mi’kmaq Nation whose land we are on, and we will have information and resources about consent and sexual violence.

Access /

As part of our deconstructed conference experience, some events at Flotilla will occur in repurposed buildings, domestic spaces, and pop-up venues. The Flotilla team is aware of the unique challenges associated with each site and will work proactively to ensure the venue space is in line with our inclusion standards. We can provide detailed notes on accessing each venue.

Sign language interpretation will be provided on request, and if you will be attending Flotilla with a support person, wheelchair, service animal, or assistance device, please let us know so we can provide you with more information on navigating Flotilla.

All of our venues are wheelchair accessible and have gender-neutral bathrooms.

Should any public attendee, registered delegate or interested participant have recommendations on how we can make improvements or continue our learning, please let us know.
