“Journée sans culture” Performance

The Dominion Building, 97 Queen St.

Sunday, September 24, 2017 - 10:00am-2:30pm

Imagine... A bay window, a view of the coast, the smell of warm brioche, colourful wildlife in a changing neighborhood at the crossroads of creation and the unexpected, two steps from downtown, increased value, modern design, a tropical plant, a blurry couple against a 3D modelling backdrop, and you.

If the opportunity for artists to appropriate spaces is, for us, an opportunity for emancipation, appropriating the artists is also, for the market and for the cities, an opportunity for urban development. The relationship between artists and the territories they pass through and occupy is woven with contradictions: the development of our communities is sometimes at the expense of the local populations by promoting the gentrification of entire sectors, and our desires for inclusion are faced with the indifference or hostility of the communities that live alongside us. We are alternately desired and expelled; a force of development and of displacement; dispossessed and instruments of dispossession.

Journée sans culture pursues its research on the policies of art by inviting you to a performative intervention and collective discussion, where we can imagine our place in the ecology of space where we are not alone, escaping from manipulation and speculation.
