ABOUT THE ARTIST

Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay is an artist and diarist. In his work you will find bells, bouquets, ceramic vases, enchanted forests, folding screens, gay elders, glitter, gold leaf, hybrid flowers, library books, love letters, imaginary paintings, madrigals, megaphones, mirrors, naked men, sign language, subtitles, and the voices of birds, baritones, boy sopranos, contraltos, countertenors and sirens.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Through the exhibition “Colin Is My Real Name,” artist Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay revisits Colin Campbell’s pioneering 1972 video True/False, which features Campbell alternately affirming and negating delicate statements about himself and his private life. Initially intended as a remake, the video instead summons Campbell’s voice to speak once more: a fragile, reversed palimpsest. The video component of “Colin Is My Real Name” was filmed at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, where True/False was originally produced.
